About

This is my story about how I became a pharmacist and then an Internet Marketing Entrepreneur.

My aim with this site is to share what I discover in my business so you can short cut your learning, AND avoid the mistakes I’ve made along the way.

I’ll share what’s working so you can model it but importantly; I’ll also share what isn’t and why something didn’t work.

As you’ll see I’ve had online businesses in various niche markets and this, coupled with my offline business experience, gives me a unique advantage as to what it takes to create a successful internet venture.

If you have any questions, or if I can help you in any way, please do reach out to me and I’ll be happy to help where I can.

However, to understand where I came from and the experience I have gained over the years we need to go back in time and travel over 4729 miles…

My father was born India and he emigrated, with his parents to Kenya. My mum’s parents came to Kenya from India and mum was born in Nairobi. I was born in Nairobi, Kenya in 1952.

My earliest childhood memory is of being looked after by my maternal grandmother at her home. I started nursery at the age of about 5 years. I am the eldest child and I have three younger sisters. Dad passed away thirteen years ago and my mum passed away this year.

Having finished O-Levels, as it was known then I had started A-Levels and had to start thinking about University. There was a University in Nairobi which offered various courses but I wanted to study in the United Kingdom. The only course not available at Nairobi University was Pharmacy and hence my career was chosen by default.

As an overseas student, I had to pay fees of about £250 per term, a lot of money then and I could not apply for grants like local U.K. students. Dad was a book-keeper all his life and worked virtually until his last years, and could not afford to send me abroad to study. Luckily I was able to get a loan from our community, which I had to pay back once I had started working and was earning sufficient wages.

So I arrived in U.K. in September 1970 and went to Cardiff and studied at the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology. There were two Universities in Cardiff at that time but they joined later to form University of Wales. University life and my time in Cardiff was filled full of fun and laughter but that is a story for another day.

The Bright Lights of London

I finished my degree in 1973 and qualified as Pharmacist a year later. The lure of London beckoned me to go and work there. I worked for a couple of pharmacy companies but the ambition and hunger to start my own business was far too much and I started my first pharmacy in London in 1982.

Whilst in London I met my lovely wife, Patricia, and we have a son and daughter.

After five and half years I was getting itchy feet and wanted to expand the business and opportunities in London were not easy to come by. The chance came to move to Bournemouth in 1988 to buy a pharmacy in a shopping mall called the Hampshire Centre. With the support of my wife we moved to Bournemouth.

The week we moved was one of the most stressful periods. Not only did we sell the pharmacy in London and buy the one in the Hampshire Centre but we also sold our house in London and bought our home in Bournemouth. At the time our son was eighteen months old and our daughter six months old. We still live in the same house though no longer have the pharmacy in the Hampshire Centre.

Moving From Self Employed To Becoming An Entrepreneur

Being very ambitious I was not content with just one pharmacy so we bought two further pharmacies. We had a very successful business and employed about 35 members of staff. Later, a supermarket was opening a super store near one of my pharmacies and they approached me to buy the NHS contract, which we sold to them in 2002.

As the Hampshire Centre was about to be knocked down and replaced by a much bigger development – Castlepoint. Two multiple pharmacy chains were both planning to go into the new development and the opportunity came to sell both my pharmacy contracts, which we sold in 2004.

This was the best thing we did as pharmacy business has changed so much in the last 43 years since I became a Pharmacist. I still work one day a week as a relief pharmacist but without the stress and pressure of running brick and mortar business.

The Call of The Internet

My internet marketing journey started in 1997 when I set a website for my pharmacy business – www.pharmacy24hour.co.uk. At that time internet was in its infancy and as did not have any technical knowledge I was paying a web design and hosting company to run the website for me.

A Hard Lesson Learned

Well this was not the best scenario as all the control was with the web hosting company and it was very expensive to run the website in those days. With regret I stopped my contract with that company and closed the website.

Once having sold my pharmacy business, I started working as a relief pharmacist for a multiple pharmacy chain. However when you work for someone else there is not the same motivation and desire as when you run your own business. The entrepreneurial streak always wants one to look ahead with aim to start a new venture.

With having some free time, I started playing golf. My interest in golf started at a very early age. In early 1960’s m dad had just bought a colour T.V. We bothy used to watch players like Gary Player, Lee Trevino, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus until late at night. I could not take up golf at an early age as it was very expensive and we just did not have enough money.

My interest in Internet Marketing had started in 1997 and around 2008, I attended a couple of Internet marketing seminars. These seminars were very thought provoking and my head was spinning with ideas. The buzz in starting a new venture was awakened. Because my interest in golf from an early age and as I was playing golf now, I decided to look at starting an Internet business around the Golf improvement niche.

Niche Online Marketing

I started selling on-line with my very first website www.golf-mind.com in 2008 selling a product called Golf Mission Cards. This was fairly successful.

Then in 2011 this was revamped to sell a digital product called ‘Extreme Golfing Confidence’ that you can download and I still make a sale every now and then from this site. Since then I have launched a couple of other sites – www.sporthypnosis.org and www.golfbasis.com. Currently I am working on project to introduce a membership site for golfing enthusiasts.

I have not able to play much golf recently due to a recurring back problem but now my back is on the mend I intend to take it up golf with full swing once again. I must say that as far as golf is concerned I am still a novice.
